Common Email Subject Prefixes

We’ll use email frequently when communicating with each other during the term. Email is especially useful for asynchronous communication. When you send messages to me (or other professors), consider using descriptive subjects followed by a subject prefix.

FYI:

Use this when you’re sending information that doesn’t require a response. Examples may include:
– FYI: I’m working on asn 4 for CIS120, but it will be a little late.
– FYI: I found a good password manager that you should check out.
– FYI: I’ve completed asn 4 for CIS120 and the files are loaded in SAM.

REQUEST:, QUE:, or QUESTION:

Use this when your email message contains a request or question that needs a response. Examples may include:
– REQUEST: I’d like to take the final exam for CIS120 a week early if possible.
– QUE: Help with sharing a OneDrive Word document if I’ve created it on my local computer?
– QUESTION: Having trouble with font styles described in CIS120 asn 4 part 2.
